Several months ago we were involved in a major project for Northport Corporation in Whangarei, located in the upper North Island of New Zealand.

The system involved a merging of technology from iQuest and other companies to provide up-to-date information for pilots to assist with the task of bringing bulk crude carriers (supertankers) in to the Marsden Point oil refinery. iQuest provided the project management, IT hardware, operating systems, DS-4483 datalogger and HydroTel™ 2000 telemetry software.

The complete project comprised three major software packages, running on a suite of IBM rack servers:

  • HydroTel™ 2000 / DS-4483 datalogger - Real-time tide and meteorological data.
  • TriAxys wave buoy / WaveView® software - Real-time wave data.
  • DUKCS® (Dynamic Under Keel Clearance) software - Generates information based on real-time and historical data, plus ship’s parameters.
